Thoughts on the unrest in our country and community

First of all,  what happened to George Floyd was wrong. I don't think the best way to demand change is to break windows, start fires, and destroy businesses. I live in a community that has had three nights of violence. I feel safe because I am not  joining in the nosensese.   If I had gone down to the downtown area or the northside of town and joined in the protest, I may have felt unsafe.  One thing to remember the protestors are choosing to put themselves in these dangerous situations.

I have been reading the posts by the protestors on social media.  The people who are organizing daily protests are asking for peace.  Some of the nightly protesters are posting that the police don't have a right to impose a curfew,  posting things that using tear gas is a dick move, and f*** the police.

There is one young man whose posts, I have chosen to follow because I know his family.  The family is dysfunctional. Now, I am not saying that everyone from a dysfunctional family is involved in the protests.  I want to share what I know about this young man, so that it might shed light on why he is involved.

Here is what I know about this family:

He was born to a young unwed mother. The notice of his birth appeared in the paper the day before or a couple of days before his parents marriage license.  The marriage didn't last, but it did produce two children.   The woman left the man who she says was abusive.   Her son is full of anger. I am not sure what happened during his teenage years, but he didn't live with his mother, his aunt raised him.  He is now a young father, is not with his child's mother, and the mother is not allowing him to see his son.

This young man feels that the whole world is against him. He has nothing more than a highschool diploma. The people he refers to as "his crew" are recent highschool grads or dropouts.  I don't think these young people understand the gravity of what they are doing.

Some of the things that this young man has posted today, I find disturbing.  Please see below for what he has posted:

"But do you snooty ass fu**ing IDIOTS ever consider that the police are antagonized protestors...."

"mace a cop call it peppa pig"

"Am I willing to lose friends over this issue, yep."

I hope that this young man and his friends find some peace and stop what they are doing.

I support any peaceful demonstrations, but I don't support any violence.
