Day 1 of traveling...........
We traveled 590 miles. Without any stops it is 9 hours and 51 minutes. We knew yesterday was going to be a long day because we had lots of stops planned.
Our first stop was in Hanover, KS at the park across the street from the hospital. In the 1990's my great grandpa was in the Hanover Hospital, so we knew a park was across the street. Our second stop was in Salina, KS. Our third stop was in Great Bend, KS. The worker at Sonic directed us to a great park with a man made lake, and dog park, which the dog loved. Our forth stop was in Dodge City, KS. We stopped at the hotel near the Casino to let the dog play in the grass. Our fifth stop was in Spearman, TX where everyone got ice cream, including the dog. The dog loves pup cups, but they don't do that in Texas, so she got a small dish of vanilla ice cream. Don't worry we all had ice cream. Around 8 p.m. we arrived at our hotel in Amarillo, TX.
So far we have had good weather. When we left the hotel in Lincoln, it was rainy, but we drove out of it. It was clear skies all the way. The humidity in Kansas, and Texas was high. When we pulled into the hotel for the night, it was 102 with lots of humidity.

During our travels we saw lots of fields with beans, corn, milo, wheat. The wheat in western Kansas has been harvested. In Kansas we drove past a farmer using a pick up truck to get his angus cows back in the pasture. We also saw some guernsey cows. The slaughter houses in Kansas must have opened back up because we saw lots of livestock trucks. We lost a little time in a couple of construction zones. A couple of the highways down to one lane controlled it with lights, which seemed more efficient than the one where a person was standing with a sign telling when you could go. We saw a "Men Working" sign where men and women were both working in the construction zone. I think they should change that to "Construction Workers Ahead."When we entered Oklahoma, the vegetation changed to sage brush. When we entered TX we drove past a very scenic view of hills. It wasn't safe to stop so no pictures. As we traveled through Texas, we went through some towns where lots of buildings were boarded up and abandoned., next to them for very nice homes. I would estimate the homes in Lincoln, would bring $600K to $800K.
The people we have seen are taking Covid-19 seriously. In Hanover, we saw some great social distancing taking place. An eldery woman wearing a mask was in a wheelchair, while a group gathered in the street nearby. In Texas, lots of stuff is shut down. For example, no inside dining, which is fine because we only want to do carryout. At the hotel they even had the remote to the TV in a sanitized package. Almost everyone we have seen at the hotel has been wearing a mask. We are wearing masks, gloves, and washing our hands. I haven't pumped gas since March because I was getting my gas at the full service stations, so it's a little scary to pump gas, but with the use of gloves hopefully I am safe.
