Stronger penalties for suspended driving needed

More than likely as you read this there is a suspended driver cruising down a street near you.  This driver more than likely doesn’t have any automobile insurance. So, when they crash into you, you are the one dealing with the damage. If you have comprehensive insurance, you pay your deductible, and your insurance company will cover your expenses up to a certain dollar amount. If you only have liability, you are your own to collect from the at fault driver.

To cut down on the number of suspended drivers on Lincoln roads, we need stiffer penalties. Currently, there is not any incentive to keep them from driving. Recently, a Lincoln man was convicted of driving on a suspended license for the second time in less than six months. This is not an isolated incident.  Many others are being convicted multiple times for the same offense within a few months or less. The most recent case the man was fined $100, which he did not pay.  He went back to court for nonpayment and the fine was determined uncollectible. Two days later, he was seen spending money that exceeded his fine.

Oh, and this man is the son of a former city council member.
