Week ending 7.22.2023

The story this week is the heat. We have been in triple digits for well over a week. It is fine, the a/c keeps plugging along.  I am so lucky to have had a new a/c unit put in last year and this spring all new duct work. So, the a/c should get us through the heatwave.

How are we dealing with this?

Inside activities only! It’s too hot to walk outside in the morning because by 7:30 a.m. it is 97 degrees.

Getting up early to do laundry. This morning I was up by 6 a.m., so I could do two loads of laundry before the heat set in.

Planning meals that are cool.  If it requires using the oven, then it is out.

Watching movies. Last night, I watched a PBS documentary on The Kennedy’s. It was interesting, I didn’t know that JFK had Addison’s Disease.  (learn more here Addison's disease: Symptoms, causes, diagnosis and treatments (msn.com))

Other happenings…

The only drama here is that I haven’t been paid since the beginning of June because someone in the payroll department forgot to pay me. I am paid monthly. I hope they get this resolved soon. Fortunately, I had enough in my savings to cover their mishap.

I am still looking for a little dog. I found a border collie that I fell in love with, but that is too big, and coat is too thick for this heat.  So, the search continues. This process is taking too long. I want a puppy NOW.

I love my job. I get to help with qualitative research. A new program is being tested regarding bystander training. Bystander training involves training people to jump in and stop violence when they see it. This new one is being done on college campuses. Right now, we are just looking at how the process is going for those who are doing the planning and implementation of the program. Since it is super new, we are aways out from knowing the effectiveness of the program overall.

Bystander training is super important because if it hadn’t been for bystanders, Chanel Miller might have been injured more than she was. When Brock Turner attacked her, he was stopped by two bystanders.
